It is a place of great diversity of natural wealth, composed of white sand beaches, lush tropical vegetation, crystal-clear rivers, coral reefs and rugged mountains. The Park was created in 1969 and its name is due to the Tayrona civilization that inhabited the region several centuries ago. Characteristics. Biodiversity: The park is home to a wide variety of flora and fauna species, including howler monkeys, ocelots, sloths, iguanas, snakes, birds and more than 400 species of planets. Indigenous culture: The park is home to the Tayrona indigenous community who have inhabited the region for centuries and still maintain their traditions and customs. Among their descendants are the Kogui, the Arhuaco, the Wiwa, the Kankuamos.
