The Park was created in 1969 and its name is due to the Tayrona civilization that inhabited the region several centuries ago. Characteristics. Indigenous culture: The park is home to the Tayrona indigenous community who have inhabited the region for centuries and still maintain their traditions and customs. Tourists are picked up in a vehicle and driven to the main entrance of Tayrona Park. Once at the entrance of the Park, the entrance fee is paid and the ecological walk begins within a tropical rainforest for nature lovers and outdoor exercise enthusiasts. From the beginning of the route surrounded by lush vegetation, you can feel the energy that emanates from the rainforest. During the walk, it is possible to find a great variety of native flora and fauna, such as orchids, ferns, birds and butterflies, which makes the walk an educational experience in one of the best ecological walks in the region. The first beach found on the way is Cañaveral Beach, which is a wide beach with moderate waves here you can rest a bit and enjoy the landscape. The next beach is Reef Beach, this beach has strong waves and a coast with underwater currents for that reason not exactly suitable for bathing just to take pictures. After the reefs you will reach the Arenilla beach, which is a small and quiet beach where you can rest and enjoy the sea. The next beach is the Piscina beach, which is a beach with crystal clear and shallow waters, here you can swim and enjoy the sun. Finally, after a 2-hour walk you will reach the Cabo San Juan beach, which is one of the most popular beaches in the park, here you can rest, enjoy the sea and the panoramic view. After enjoying the Cabo San Juan beach, you will walk back along the same path to the park entrance. Finally, once at the park entrance, you will board the vehicle that will take you back to Santa Marta where the tour ends.
