Visiting the stilt villages in the Magdalena Swamp offers an opportunity to learn about a unique cultural heritage. This is what you’ll find in your experience
The experience begins with a ground transfer from Santa Marta to the embarkation point, a 40-minute journey that offers a glimpse of the rural landscapes of the Magdalena region.
From there, the boat ride starts toward the mouth of the Río Frío, a 30-minute trip where visitors will learn and practice the traditional fishing techniques used by local communities.
The journey continues through Caño Grande toward the floating village of Nueva Venecia. Along the way, there is a stop in the village of Buenavista to enjoy a cultural performance that captures the vibrant essence of the Caribbean.
Upon arrival in Nueva Venecia, visitors will take a guided tour through the stilt village, discovering its history, traditions, and way of life. The experience also includes a visit to local artisans and a traditional lunch prepared by the community.
The day concludes with the return boat trip to the embarkation point and the transfer back to Santa Marta, surrounded by the stunning scenery of the Ciénaga Grande — a perfect ending to a journey filled with culture, heritage, and nature.
